We are thrilled to announce that Big Brain Club founder Dom Testa’s first young adult book, The Comet’s Curse, has been chosen as the ‘Youth One Book One Denver’ selection for 2015!
‘Youth One Book One Denver’ is a city-wide program that engages students in reading and helps prevent the “summer slide” that often afflicts kids during summer vacation. The program serves over 3,000 Denver-area youth, many of whom are from low-income families. Nearly 30 summer programs are involved, including Denver Parks and Recreation, Boys and Girls Clubs, Girl Scouts, Open World Learning, Mi Casa Resource Center, the Denver Public Library – just to name a few.
Mayor Michael Hancock announced The Comet’s Curse as this year’s YOBOD selection at a press conference this afternoon on the campus of Munroe Elementary School, where he also designated the week of May 11 as Denver Literacy Week. Following the press conference, Dom stuck around to chat with 4th and 5th grade students and to help Munroe kick off their annual Read-a-Thon.
Dom will be making many other appearances in support of YOBOD throughout the summer, including three Lunch and Learn events at the McNichols Building downtown, as well as four library visits at various DPL branches. You can find more information about all of these events right here.
The Comet’s Curse was selected for this year’s ‘Youth One Book One Denver’ from votes cast by more than 600 students, parents, and teachers. You can find copies at any Denver Public Library, as well as at all Denver-area Barnes & Noble and Tattered Cover Book Stores. The entire Galahad series is also available from all your favorite online retailers.
Enjoy your summer! Happy reading!
